The plate remains the property of the Registry of Motor Vehicles, and the vanity plate application itself has the applicant certify against selling it. A sale would breach the terms the plate was issued on.

Why TagsTrader does not list Massachusetts plates
TagsTrader does not list plates from Massachusetts, because a sale to an unrelated buyer is not lawful there. A listing would invite a sale that cannot legally conclude, and a buyer could pay to open contact on it. There is no workaround on this page, and there will not be one.
