Can you sell a personalised plate in Illinois?
Illinois: family only
What the law says
Illinois confines the transfer of a vanity or personalized plate to family members.
Basis: TagsTrader's own determination of 25 August 2026. No statute, regulation or form is recorded for this state; the finding rests on the state's release process handing a combination to whoever applies first.
Why TagsTrader does not list Illinois plates
TagsTrader does not list plates from Illinois, because a sale to an unrelated buyer is not lawful there. A listing would invite a sale that cannot legally conclude, and a buyer could pay to open contact on it. There is no workaround on this page, and there will not be one.
What TagsTrader does and does not do
We are a match-maker: we introduce a buyer and a seller who would otherwise never find each other. Listing a plate is free. A buyer pays a fee to open contact with the seller, and nothing else.
We are not a party to your sale, we hold no funds, we cannot make your state approve anything, and we do not guarantee any outcome. The transfer itself is between you, the other party and your state authority. This page is a description, not advice: we publish no forms, templates or tax guidance.
